Cranberry Concentrate - Studies Show Helpful for UTIs

A UTI (Urinary Tract Infection) is a very common and painful infection that can affect anyone but is more prevalent in women. If left untreated it can spread to the kidneys and cause a more serious condition.

Most people use antibiotics to treat this condition and especially if you are prone to UTIs this can become very risky because it poses the risk of bacterial resistance from taking too many Antibiotics and ceases to help the condition and causes other problems in the body for future infections of any kind.

The active ingredient in Cranberry (A-type proanthocyanidins or PACs) can block the adhesion of bacteria to the wall of the bladder. For a UTI to occur, bacteria must adhere to and invade the lining of the bladder. The PAC in cranberries interfere with the bacteria’s ability to bind to the wall of the bladder and create an infection.

You will not be able to treat your UTI with cranberry juice. It will offer more hydration and will possibly wash bacteria from your bladder more effectively but the PAC in the cranberry is long gone by the time it reaches your bladder.

Studies have shown that taking Cranberry capsules lowered the risk of UTIs by 50% in women who had a catheter in place while undergoing gynecological surgeries. It takes a large amount of pure cranberry to prevent infections.
