High Cholesterol; Is It Really Bad for You?
By: Bruce Brightman - LifeSource Vitamins
People with high cholesterol live the longest. I know this sounds weird,
but keep reading. This statement seems so incredible that it takes a long
time to clear one's brainwashed mind to fully understand its importance.
Yet the fact that people with high cholesterol live the longest emerges
clearly from many scientific papers. Consider the finding of Dr. Harlan
Krumholz of the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at Yale University,
who reported in 1994 that old people with low cholesterol died twice as
often from a heart attack as did old people with high cholesterol.
1
Supporters of the cholesterol campaign consistently ignore his observation
or consider it as a rare exception, produced by chance among a huge number
of studies finding the opposite.
Did you know that: "Half the people who are admitted to hospitals in
America with cardiovascular disease have normal cholesterol - and half the
people with elevated cholesterol have normal hearts?"
Dr. Jonny Bowden, author of The Great Cholesterol Myth states:
With so much focus on cholesterol, statins have become a problem as well.
He said the medication is often over-prescribed for populations in which
they show no benefit. Women especially shouldn't be taking statins, because
there is no evidence that a woman has ever been saved from a heart attack
by using statins.
Something even scarier for Bowden is that doctors are now considering
prescribing statins to children. "They have never been tested on children,
and cholesterol is imperative for body function," Bowden said. "Statins
have side effects, and they need to be taken seriously."
According to Bowden, the best way to combat high cholesterol is to eat
plenty of whole foods - full of antioxidants and anti-inflammatories. He
encouraged eating blueberries, kale, onions, peppers and wild salmon loaded
with omega-3s.
"Then there is curcumin; I am nuts about this," Bowden said. "…This is the
stuff that makes Indian food yellow - turmeric. It has anti-inflammation;
it has antioxidants; it's good for the liver."
"Lower stress in your life, which is a huge contributor to heart disease -
probably way more than cholesterol," Bowden said. "Lower the stress, lower
the toxins in your life, including toxic relationships and eat less sugar,
because the problem isn't with fat - it's with sugar in the diet."
Now without question I am not saying that making yourself have high
cholesterol through eating foods that will elevate your cholesterol levels
is good, such as everything that we know is bad for us, rather what I am
saying here is have a more healthful diet and not worry as much about your
cholesterol scores. Eat to live longer. This doesn't mean you can't have
those delicious foods we all love, just limit them.
Dr. R Trattler and Dr. A Jones, in their book "Better Health through
Natural Healing", contains only 3 to 4 pages on the topic of bad
cholesterol, but those pages support the cholesterol myth and strongly
condemn the idea of high cholesterol being bad cholesterol, explaining the
idea as an unfounded dogma (unsupported by scientific proof), but a myth
that makes doctors, laboratories and drug companies all wealthier [all at
our expense].
According to Trattler and Jones, the body needs the so called bad
cholesterol for bodily processes - such as bile acid production, proper
cell membrane function, the production of several hormones, such as the sex
hormones. The bad cholesterol also improves skin healing and reduces
infections.
They sum up the importance of the bad cholesterol to the human body as, and
I quote, "...Without cholesterol, we would die, and too little is
implicated in many disease states..."
Trattler and Jones also go on to say that the high cholesterol and bad
cholesterol myth, holds that excess cholesterol builds up on artery walls
causing the symptom of blood vessels and arteries to narrow (
atherosclerosis ).
According to the cholesterol myth, excess of the bad cholesterol also
affects blood platelets, increasing the likelihood of the symptoms of heart
disease and angina, heart attack, stroke, kidney failure and so on.
Below you will see the traditional charts: It is stated that if your scores
show up in the red zone then it is absolutely time to change your lifestyle
to the
Therapeutic Lifestyle
program, we at LifeSource Vitamins think that changing to this lifestyle
slowly will make your healthier for longer during your life, and no matter
what age you are, the sooner the better.
