NAC (N-Acetylcysteine) - Chest Congestion including COPD and Pneumonia

NAC is an antioxidant supplement that has shown promise in some studies.

One research claims that NAC is a robust treatment for COPD that reduces phlegm and cough, thins mucus, and eases expectoration. It's said to decrease the deterioration of lung function. NAC is often recommended for its ability to loosen sputum.

NAC seems to be the most active in relieving the constant buildup of mucus. N-acetyl Cysteine helps break down mucus and supplies antioxidant protection to lung tissue.

Oral NAC, 200 mg taken three times per day, is effective and improved symptoms in people with bronchitis in double-blind research. In other double-blind studies, oral NAC in the amount of 600 mg twice a day for 1 year significantly decreased the number of disease exacerbations in patients with moderate-to-severe COPD.
