LifeSource Vitamins
Super Omega 3-6-9 is a blend of Fish, Borage, and Flax Seed Oils.
This combination of well-known nutritional oils provides a unique balance
of Omega-3 and Omega-6 Essential Fatty Acids plus Omega-9, a non-essential,
but beneficial fatty acid. The Omega-3's, Alpha-Linolenic Acid, EPA and
DHA, and the Omega-6, GLA, are necessary for the maintenance of the
cardiovascular system, nervous system, and skin health. Oleic Acid, an
Omega-9, has also been shown to promote a healthy vascular system. *
What is Omega-6 Fatty Acid?
Omega-6 fatty acid (Linoleic Acid) combined with omega-3 fatty acid
produces many of the health benefits described above, but the trickiest
part about playing the fatty acid game is that it is best to eat them in
the right amounts.
You should be eating about twice as much omega-6 as omega-3, so that your
omega-6 to omega-3 ratio is 2:1, but in today’s world of fast food, frozen
entrees, and high-calorie snacks, it is not uncommon for most people to
actually be getting about 15 times more omega-6 than omega-3. Washington
DC’s Center for Genetics, Nutrition and Health suggests that eating omega-6
and omega-3 in the wrong proportions may actually negate the health
benefits.
The best sources of omega-6 are seeds, nuts and grains, and green leafy
vegetables, like lettuce, broccoli, purslane and kale, and in certain raw
vegetable oils. Care should be taken to use raw cold-pressed vegetable oils
because cooking destroys the benefits of the fatty acids.
What is Omega-9 Fatty Acid?
Omega-9, or monounsaturated oleic and stearic acid is a non-essential fatty
acid produced naturally by the body whenever there is enough of either
Omega 3 or Omega 6 essential fatty acids.
However, if you do not have enough omega 3 and omega 6, then you must get
omega 9 from your diet.
This fatty acid plays a role in promoting heart health by supporting
healthy, balanced cholesterol levels and improving immune function.
What are EPA and DHA?
Within the body omega-3 fatty acids are converted to DHA and EPA
(docosahexaenoic acid and eicosapentaenoic acid, respectively). DHA and EPA
are highly unsaturated fats that play very important roles in the vision
development and brain function of infants.
One study found significantly lower amounts of EPA in the cells of patients
who had attempted suicide, suggesting that omega-3 fatty acids may actually
play a role in suicide prevention. A lack of DHA has been associated with
Alzheimer's disease, attention disorders, phenylketonuria, cystic fibrosis,
and other diseases.*
Harvard Health states: A subsequent meta-analysis, which included data from over 10 studies, found fish oil omega‐3 supplements lowered the risk for heart attack and death from coronary heart disease: See Full Info Here
NIH –
National Library of Medicine states: Omega-3 fatty acids have been shown to
significantly reduce the risk for sudden death caused by cardiac arrhythmias
and all-cause mortality in patients with known coronary heart disease.
Omega-3 fatty acids are also used to treat hyperlipidemia and hypertension. Read Full Complete Here
NIH – National Library
of Medicine states: Our search strategy yielded 174 articles, out of which
33 full-text articles were reviewed and nine articles were selected for data
abstraction. The overall number of individuals in all nine studies
was 1319. Of the participants, 591 (44.81%) were men, and 728 (55.19%) were
women. Participants who received omega-3 were 700 (65.06%) compared to 376
(34.94%) who received a placebo, and their mean age was 45. Ingestion
of omega-3 fatty acids increases learning, memory, cognitive well-being, and
blood flow in the brain. Omega-3 treatments are advantageous,
well-tolerated, and risk-free. Lonelier people, the elderly, and those who eat
fewer healthy foods containing omega-3 may benefit from an omega-3 supplement.
We suggest that natural omega-3 consumption through the diet should be
promoted. Read Complete

ESSENTIAL FATTY ACIDS (OMEGA 3 AND OMEGA 6 COMPOUNDS)
Essential fatty acids are either Omega-3 oils or Omega-6 oils. Sources of
Omega-3 are cod liver oil or fish oils. Flax oil, flaxseed or leafy green
vegetables. Some nuts also contain Omega-3's (walnuts). Omega-6 sources are
corn oil, wheat germ oil, soy oil, borage oil, evening primrose oil, black
current oil plus many of the other grocery store-bought cooking oils.
Almost all processed foods are very high in Omega-6's. Essential fatty
acids play critical roles in body structure and function, in fact, life
cannot be sustained without them. Some are transformed to regulating
compounds called prostaglandins in the body and these prostaglandins along
with essential fatty acids are responsible for supporting the critical body
functions listed below*:
-
Nerve transmission*
-
Pressure regulation in the eye, joints, and blood vessels*
-
Division of cells (growth and healing processes)*
-
Response to pain, swelling, and inflammation*
-
Muscle reflexes*
-
Transporting of oxygen from cells to tissue*
-
Maintaining the health of cell membranes*
-
Supporting immune response*
-
Providing energy to the heart muscle*
Essential fatty acids are often called by their chemical names. Omega-3
compounds are:
-
EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid)
-
DHA (docosahexaenoic acid)
-
alpha-linolenic acid
Omega-6 compounds are:
-
linoleic acid
-
gamma-linoleic acid
-
arachidonic acid
There are two families of Essential Fatty Acids (EFA's), omega 3 and omega 6. Omega 3(see LifeSource Vitamins Omega 3) fatty acids are made
from Alpha Linolenic Acid and the omega 6 fatty acids are made from
Linoleic Acid. Consuming both Linolenic and Linoleic Fatty acids allow the
body to make all the essential fats it needs. Both of these - Linolenic
Acid and Linoleic Acid - are used by the body to manufacture other EFA's.
The body uses linolenic Acid to produce both Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA),
and Eicosapentaenoic Acid (EPA), and uses Linoleic Acid to produce
Arachidonic Acid (AA) and Gamma Linoleic Acid (GLA). Omega 3 and omega 6
fatty acids affect growth, vitality and mental state, and they are involved
in converting food substances into usable energy and then transporting that
energy throughout our bodies. They favorably affect atherosclerosis,
coronary heart disease, inflammatory disease, and perhaps even behavioral
disorders. Omega 9 fatty acid, or Oleic acid, may sometimes be mistaken as
an EFA, but it is not because humans can produce a limited amount. Oleic
Acid is the primary Mono-unsaturated fatty acid (MUFA) found in olive oil.
Oleic acid is associated with reduced atherosclerosis (hardening of the
arteries), reduced insulin resistance, and, thus, improved glucose (blood
sugar) maintenance, improved immune system function, and possible
protective effects from some cancers. Numerous studies point to a modest
beneficial effect of olive oil consumption on breast cancer risk.*
In addition, nutritionists have come to recognize the importance of
balancing omega-3 fatty acids with omega-6 fatty acids in the diet. Because
most people on a typical Western diet consume far more omega-6-rich foods
(including cereals, whole-grain bread, baked goods, fried foods, margarine,
and others), the ratio is out of balance for almost everyone. This means
for most Americans the emphasis now needs to be on increasing omega-3s to
make the ratio more even.
LifeSource’s Super Omega 3-6-9 is a supplement that truly covers all
aspects of supporting heart and circulation health - it contains flax and
canola seed oils for Omega 3, GLA from primrose for Omega 6, and Oleic acid
for Omega 9. LifeSource’s Super Omega 3-6-9 is the perfect supplement for
individuals wanting to add essential oils to their diet.
Consuming adequate amounts of healthy kinds of fat - "essential fatty
acids," like those found in LifeSource’s Super Omega 3-6-9 formula, is
vital for your overall health and vitality. In fact, the World Health
Organization recommends adult fat consumption equal at least 15% of energy
intake, and in women of reproductive age, no less than 20%. Fatty acids
promote healthy cholesterol levels, heart and arterial health.
LifeSource’s Super Omega 3-6-9 Essential Fatty Acids Formula provides a
blend of the highest quality source Omega 3, Omega 6 and Omega 9 Fatty
Acids in a single softgel capsule.
Omega-3 Fatty Acids Promote Heart Health:
Studies have shown diets rich in omega-3 fatty acids support heart health
by promoting proper triglyceride and cholesterol levels.*
The Important Role Played by Omega-6 Fatty Acids:
The key type of omega-6 fatty acid is called GLA (gamma-linolenic acid).
GLA is a precursor to hormone-like prostaglandins (PGE-1). Prostaglandins
and specifically PGE-1 are powerful health "gladiators" cascading through
the body.*
PGE-1 promotes healthy blood flow to and from the heart by supporting blood
vessels.*
Immune function is also under the powerful influence of PGE-1, which
controls the release of lymphokines known to activate immune system cells.
Production and secretion of vital hormones in the pituitary, thyroid, and
adrenal glands, as well as immune-boosting and lean tissue building growth
hormone, are all stimulated by "multi-talented" PGE-1. PGE-1 also promotes
the release and uptake of neurotransmitters, the chemical messengers of the
nervous system, which support healthy sleep patterns and mood. Healthy
levels of fatty acids which lead to adequate PGE-1 are important for those
wishing to maintain energy levels.*
Omega 9 Fatty Acid
Common to olive oil, peanuts, and avocado, Omega 9 fatty acid is also known
as oleic acid. While not an essential fatty acid (the body can manufacture
omega 9), supplementing with Omega 9 provides a good source of
monounsaturated fat that promotes a healthy inflammation response.*
