Panax Ginseng - Weak Bladder Control
Overactive Bladder (OAB) can result from stretched or weak pelvic muscles,
chronic bladder infections, bladder diseases, diabetes, or obesity. Men
often feel the need to urinate frequently due to an enlarged prostate,
while women tend toward bladder infection and pelvic muscle weakening.
It is estimated that 33 million Americans, both men, and women, live with
OAB, but the real number is probably much larger because people don't ask
for help due to embarrassment. OAB is marked primarily by a sudden,
uncontrollable urge to urinate. Some will experience incontinence
frequently and out of the blue. Those with stress urinary incontinence
(SUI) experience "leaks" while sneezing, laughing or exercising.
Getting up three or more times during the night results in loss of restful
sleep and anxiety.
Ginseng root
is the ultimate qi (pronounced "chee") tonic, and is used in Asia for OAB.
Ginseng enhances the conversion of arginine into nitric oxide, which is
thought to contribute to the relaxation of the bladder muscle. Research
supports its use for reduced urination. Start with one gram of ginseng per
day, in capsules, and increase by one gram every couple days, until OAB is
reduced.

Note: Different from Western medicine, the kidneys' energy, or "qi"
(pronounced "chee"), plays a role in holding the urine in the bladder.
Subsequently, a deficiency of kidney qi could be the root cause of an
overactive bladder. ... The bladder's ability to hold urine is a yin
function.
Overactive bladder symptoms
:
Experiencing occasional incontinence doesn't mean you have an overactive
bladder. Urine leakage can happen for other reasons, like if you're
laughing too hard. You may also experience loss of urine if you've been
fighting the urge to urinate for an extended period of time.
An overactive bladder is determined by the frequency and urgency of
urination. Symptoms include:
-
an urgent and uncontrollable need to urinate
-
frequent involuntary loss of urine
-
frequent urination
(more than eight times in a 24-hour period)
-
waking up more than once a night to use the bathroom
Symptoms of overactive bladder can change. They may be different from
person to person, too, which can make identifying the issue difficult
without a doctor's help.
Knowing the symptoms of overactive bladder can help you find better
treatments faster.
