Vitamin D Deficiency & Male-Pattern Hair Loss

A study showed that men who were deficient in Vitamin D levels were more prone to male-pattern hair loss even in young men. The study was done on an equal number of participants with male-pattern hair loss and those without the condition. There was a significant difference in the two groups in their Vitamin D Levels.

One role Vitamin D plays is stimulating new and old hair follicles. When there isn’t enough vitamin D in your system, new hair growth can be stunted.

Vitamin D deficiency can cause alopecia, the autoimmune condition that causes bald patches on the scalp and other areas of the body. Men and women can experience alopecia. A couple of reasons for insufficient vitamin D levels include spending more time indoors and wearing a lot of sunscreen.

Studies shows that Vitamin D receptors can help produce new hair follicles and restore hair growth. But scientific research doesn’t show how long it will take for hair to grow back and if there is a significant amount of hair regrowth after increasing your vitamin D intake and improving your levels. Some evidence suggests hair may stop shedding and regenerate in as little as two months after increasing your Vitamin D levels.
