Vitamin D Deficiency Now Linked to Heart Failure Risk

There are so many studies being performed on all the amazing things Vitamin D does for our bodies, from the Brain, Gut & Nervous System, now we are seeing signs that is affects the risk of Heart Failure.

This Heart Failure study was done with both men and women alike. The article published in ESC Heart Failure reports (ESC Heart Fail, 2018;5(1);63-74. What it found was the association between the increased risk of Heart Failure and Vitamin D deficiency in both the men and women groups.

So here is how the study was performed: 137 subjects that were 60 ears and older who were seen and cardiology outpatient clinics across the United States. The number used for deficient for these subjects were: less than 30 ng/mL, 25-hydroxyvitamin D which include 65% of the entire group of men and women.

Among these 65% that were deficient, 78.7% had an increased risk of heart failure as determined by Health and Aging Body Composition Heart Failure score that put them at medium, high or even very high risk in comparison with normal risk.

The increased risk of this Heart Failure in this study was found in more than 50% of these patients and was significantly associated with their Vitamin D deficiency.
