Resveratrol – New Study Shows It Lower Glucose Levels

Resveratrol, a powerful polyphenol, and the anti-fungal chemical are often touted as the bioactive compound in grapes and red wine.

Resveratrol supplements have been shown to improve long-term glucose control in the health of older adults. It also improves resting-state functional connectivity (RSFC) of hippocampus and memory function.

Studies that have been conducted in humans show a positive influence on cerebral blood flow, glucose control, and verbal episodic memory performance.

Researchers in India sought to test their hypothesis that oral supplements of Resveratrol could improve glycemic control in type-2 diabetes .

They took sixty-two people who were randomly assigned to receive their standard oral hypoglycemic agents with or without Resveratrol for three months.

Results showed that the average A1C levels were significantly lower in the Resveratrol group. Improvements were also recorded in total cholesterol levels and total protein. Oral supplements of Resveratrol was found to be effective in improving glycemic control and could possibly provide a potential adjuvant for the management and treatment of diabetes.

It is noted that 100 mg or higher of Resveratrol supplements were associated with the lowering of glucose levels.
