This is a NON-GMO & BSE-Free product proudly made in and from
United States ingredients, NOT CHINA. Too many vitamin companies are
outsourcing products from China. We will never do this. This explains
why other vitamin products are so cheap. And frankly, doesn’t work.
Why are flamingos pink? They get their healthy fill of pinkish-red
astaxanthin in their diet. Astaxanthin (As-ta-Zan-thin), a carotenoid
pigment and powerful antioxidant, is found naturally in a number of marine
plants, algae, and seafood (e.g. salmon, trout, and shrimp). LifeSource
Vitamins uses Zanthin® Natural Astaxanthin, in our product, as it is
patented and produces a guaranteed strength and no chemical solvents. The
most innovative and Bio-available product on the market today. Research
shows Astaxanthin can help with skin health, visual acuity and
cardiovascular health.*
Astaxanthin is vastly more powerful at knocking out free radicals,
which are always at work tearing your body down, leaving damaged cells
and tissues in their wake. Let our Astaxanthin help fight these free
radicals.*
Although humans needn't consume enough astaxanthin to turn flamingo-pink,
people should still incorporate this free-radical fighting carotenoid into
their diet.

Astaxanthin is a very potent antioxidant that we'll be hearing more and
more about over the coming years. Specifically, it functions as a
carotenoid antioxidant though it does not get converted to Vitamin A.
Though it's a ubiquitous pigment found in the marine environment which
provides the pinkish-red color to lobsters, shrimp, salmon, and crayfish,
it's actually produced by microalgae and phytoplankton.*
Astaxanthin is one of the few antioxidants that can move throughout the
entire body and provide protection to all of our cells. And Astaxanthin has
the unique property that it can protect the entire cell. It has polar
hydrophilic ends that span across the entire cell membrane. Most other
well-known antioxidants cannot do this.*
What is the difference between Astaxanthin and Beta-carotene?
Astaxanthin belongs to the same family of fat-soluble carotenoid molecules
as the yellow/orange colored Beta-carotene. It differs from Beta-carotene
in that its' molecular structure contains two additional oxygen groups in
each ring structure. This gives it a deep red color and classifies it as a
xanthophyll, with up to 10 times stronger free radical scavenging activity.
Another difference is that, unlike Beta-carotene, Astaxanthin cannot be
converted to Vitamin A in the human body.
Benefits of Astaxanthin
Astaxanthin's most basic source is a micro-algae, Haematococcus Pluvialis.
Predators eat Haematococcus, the food chain continues, and Astaxanthin
accumulates to the point of which flamingos and salmon have a pinkish hue.*
Astaxanthin’s antioxidant properties are superior to its carotenoid family
members; in fact, it is 40 times more potent than beta-carotene. It is
unique from the rest of the carotenoid family in that its chemical
structure exposes itself to the interior as well as the exterior of a cell.
This allows it to more efficiently and quickly neutralize harmful free
radicals, which attack cell membranes causing oxidative stress. In other
words, Astaxanthin protects cell membrane components from oxidative stress
and inflammation.*
The green microalgae, Haematococcus pulvaris, is believed to have
the largest capacity to accumulate astaxanthin though it's also found in
other microalgae such as Chlorella zongiensis and Chlorococcum sp. Supplements containing Astaxanthin are also
available from natural sources such as Krill.*
How Astaxanthin Works
-
Increases the skin's ability to resist environmental stripping of skin
nutrients by restoring the skin's natural antioxidant balance (SOD,
CAT, GSH), and by protecting cell membranes against lipid
peroxidation.*
-
Reduces puffiness and erythema by suppressing the inflammatory
pathway.*
-
Prevents and reduces the presence of UV-induced wrinkles by protecting
the dermal layer against oxidative stress dysfunction.*
-
Firms skin and increases moisture by allowing repair processes to heal
the collagen network.*
-
Reduces the risk of skin cancer by protecting against accumulated DNA
damage.*
Astaxanthin and Skin Care
A Uniquely Powerful Antioxidant Defense Against the Signs of Aging
While natural aging can cause the loss of skin suppleness and elasticity,
UV-induced free radicals are more harmful to the skin because they accelerate the aging process. With its potent anti-oxidative
power, Astaxanthin can inhibit the activity of free radicals by acting
rapidly against it on the skin surface, epidermis, and dermis. Research
suggests potential skin benefits from
the use of Astaxanthin to maintain a youthful appearance, reverse
premature signs of aging and prevent UV induced skin cancer.
More Health Benefits of Astaxanthin:
Researchers recently summarized a number of the potential health benefits
of Astaxanthin. As a potent antioxidant, the myriad of potential health
benefits is staggering. However, there's still fairly limited research
regarding the optimal dosage, safety, and general effectiveness of this
supplement in human studies.
Free radicals and other reactive oxygen species are produced during normal
life-sustaining aerobic metabolism. In excess, these molecules can cause
protein and lipid oxidation and DNA damage. Numerous diseases are
associated with this type of cellular damage. Exogenous antioxidants such
as carotenoids can help to attenuate or limit this damage.
Potential Health Conditions:
As mentioned, the list of potential health conditions for which astaxanthin
may be of benefit is exceptionally long - specifically, inflammatory
diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, atherosclerosis, inflammatory bowel disease, and brain inflammatory diseases.
As well, its role as a free-radical scavenger may be of benefit in
conditions such as protecting against ethanol-induced gastric damage, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, some types of cancer, as well as neuro-degenerative conditions such as Alzheimer's, and Parkinson's diseases.
They also noted the potential ocular, hepatic, and skin protective effects
as well as beneficial effects on the immune system.
In conclusion, the authors of this study noted that the growing evidence
from tissue culture, animal, and clinical studies is encouraging, but more
extensive well-controlled trials are needed.
If you are taking LifeSource Vitamins Astaxanthin specifically for
joint health, it is recommended that you take a dosage of 10 to 12 mg
per day. After a month, you may cut back to 4-8mg per day, as you see
fit. If you are taking it as a general means of staying healthy, they
recommend 4-6 mg per day.
What are Carotenoids?
Carotenoids are fat-soluble pigments commonly found in the photosynthesis
process in microalgae. There are over 600 known carotenoids. Other common
carotenoids include beta carotene, lutein, and zeaxanthin. Some molds, yeasts, and bacteria use carotenoids as protection from
harmful exposure to light and oxygen. Animals are not capable of
synthesizing carotenoids and can only obtain them from food sources.
Antioxidant
Astaxanthin has shown powerful
antioxidant
properties and appears to be superior to vitamins A and E and other
carotenoids such as beta carotene and lutein. Astaxanthin helps in
protecting cells and their internal structures from free radical damage. It
reduces the formation of plaque buildup in arteries by decreasing the oxidation
of LDL cholesterol. It is also beneficial in protecting against DNA damage
and the harmful effects of ultraviolet radiation by singlet and triplet
oxygen quenching. Its antioxidant benefits also help to increase stamina
and strength.
The Benefits of Astaxanthin for Inflammation
Inflammation is your body's response against infection, and the mechanism
it uses for repairing injured tissue. When a virus attacks your cells, your
inflammatory system kicks in to fight it off. If you sprain an ankle, your
inflammatory system works to repair the damage. Other examples of
inflammation include the swelling you experience from arthritis and
sunburn.
"Silent" inflammation underlies many diseases
.
While occasional inflammation is a normal, healthy process, chronic
inflammation can lead to serious problems. This is often called systemic or
"silent" inflammation.
This chronic inflammation has commonly been associated with asthma and
arthritis, but now is thought to be an underlying cause of atherosclerosis,
strokes, ulcers, Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease, cancer, diabetes and
more.
Common treatments for inflammation come with significant side effects.
These include aspirin, acetaminophen, and the prescription drug Celebrex.
None of these are harmless; they all have significant side effects, serious
enough to result in over 100,000 hospitalizations and 15,000 deaths per
year in the United States. Complications from the use of these medications
represent about 40% of all drug-related emergency visits.
People are discovering the benefits of astaxanthin for any problem
resulting from chronic inflammation. It's a completely safe alternative and
is effective for a large percentage of users.
Astaxanthin for Joint Pain
Astaxanthin can help reduce pain and inflammation in tendons, joints, and
muscles. Astaxanthin has been shown to be a very effective
remedy for all types of joint pain, including tennis elbow, carpal tunnel
syndrome, arthritis, and joint soreness after strenuous exercise.
A health survey taken by the Nutrex-Hawaii company showed that over 80% of
those experiencing back pain and symptoms from osteo or rheumatoid
arthritis reported an improvement from supplementing with astaxanthin.
Astaxanthin for Athletic Endurance and Recovery
A convincing demonstration of the benefits of astaxanthin for athletic
performance is the feat of salmon swimming upstream to spawn.
Salmon often go without food for days, drawing on their own reserves while
making their way upstream for hundreds of miles. Where do they acquire such
endurance? Much of it comes from their considerable dietary intake of
astaxanthin.
The benefits of astaxanthin for serious athletes are significant. Regular
users report that supplementing with astaxanthin:
-
increases strength and stamina
-
reduces recovery time
-
prevents joint and muscle soreness after exercise
If you exercise regularly, you don't want to be slowed down from fatigue or
sore joints and muscles. Anything that can reduce inflammation will benefit
your performance — and astaxanthin has been shown to be one of the most
effective natural inflammatories there are.
How does astaxanthin help with stamina and endurance?
Astaxanthin's ability to increase your endurance is due to its beneficial
effect on your mitochondria, the part of your cells that generates up to 95
percent of your energy. Many of your mitochondrial cells are found in your
muscle tissue; that's where you have the greatest need for them. When your
mitochondria can't produce enough energy to meet your body's demands, your
strength and endurance suffer.
This energy-producing activity of your mitochondria also has a downside —
it generates highly reactive free radicals that damage your cell membranes.
The more strenuous your activity, the more free radicals you produce. This
cellular damage results in excessive inflammation which results in tired
and sore muscles.
When you're engaged in any strenuous aerobic exercise, your body is using
oxygen at an accelerated rate, and generating 12 times as many free
radicals as when you are resting. Numerous studies, with humans as well as
animals, have shown that Astaxanthin’s powerful ability to quench these
free radicals gives you more strength and endurance.
Astaxanthin is also effective in reducing lactic acid buildup during
intense exercise. Lactic acid is what produces the "burn" you feel when
you're exerting your muscles to their max; lactic acid buildup will reduce
your overall stamina.
Many competitive and endurance athletes have become believers in
astaxanthin supplements for all of the above reasons.
Astaxanthin for Youthful, Beautiful Skin
One of the most frequently reported benefits of astaxanthin is an
improvement in skin quality. There is evidence that astaxanthin not only
prevents UV sun damage from occurring but may actually help to reverse
external signs of aging, from the inside out. This has been clearly
demonstrated in human clinical trials.

Many users of astaxanthin supplements report that they are able to spend
significantly more time out in the sun without burning than they were able
to before. This is due to the powerful anti-inflammatory properties that
astaxanthin has. (A sunburn is essentially an inflammation of your skin).
Dr. Nicholas Perricone highly recommends astaxanthin for reducing wrinkles
and age spots, improving moisture levels, elasticity, and smoothness, and
for giving your skin a beautiful, healthy glow.
Several cosmetic manufacturers have begun to use astaxanthin in facial and
body creams for its UV protection and ability to heal damaged skin.
The Benefits of Astaxanthin for Eye Health
Recent studies reveal that astaxanthin is the ultimate supplement for eye
health and the prevention of blindness because it's one of the few
antioxidants that can penetrate the retinal barrier in your eyes.
Supplementing with astaxanthin has been found to have protective benefits
against a wide range of vision-related problems, including:
-
cataracts*
-
macular degeneration*
-
diabetic retinopathy*
-
glaucoma and many others*
The Benefits of Astaxanthin Supplementation for Eyesight
Astaxanthin is known for its antioxidants and is recommended for maximum
anti-inflammatory and health benefits for your eyes. Astaxanthin helps
support and enhance eye function, improve night vision, and reduce eye
fatigue and strain, and may help prevent the occurrence of degenerative
diseases of the eyes.
Why does LifeSource Vitamins use ZANTHIN
®
Brand Astaxanthin?
The better antioxidant, any way you look at it
A member of the carotenoid family, astaxanthin is one of the most powerful
lipophilic antioxidants yet discovered. As an antioxidant, it has been
shown to be up to 500 times more powerful than Vitamin E, 10 times more
potent as beta-carotene, and 5 times more potent than lutein. Astaxanthin,
unlike some carotenoids, does not convert to Vitamin A (retinol) in the
human body. This high level of antioxidant activity means a much better
able to address the many age-onset conditions related to oxidative stress.
Because of its unique biochemistry, astaxanthin should be considered as a
component in every antioxidant formulation. Because of its potency, it can
function as a ‘booster shot’ for common antioxidants like vitamins A, C, and
E. Even more importantly, astaxanthin’s chemistry will stop these
antioxidants from becoming ‘pro-oxidants. Astaxanthin has dual function
antioxidant. It is one of the more potent quenchers of singlet oxygen. It
also has the ability to efficiently trap peroxyl radicals, thus inhibiting
that pathway of lipid peroxidation.
